Hanazen Co., Ltd.

Hanazen

Founded in 1899, our journey began with the sale of the renowned Torimeshi Bento (Chicken Bento), a popular ekiben (train station lucn box) from Odate Station on the Ou Main Line.

We have achieved first-place rankings in JR East’s “Ekiben Daishogun” (Top Ekiben) for two years consecutively. Additionally, we became the first in the ekiben industry to receive an award from the global food competition “Monde Selection.” In 2019, we established a permanent store in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, France. In 2021, we inaugurated an Ekiben Shop at Gare de Lyon station. Beyond ekiben, our dining facilities offer freshly made Torimeshi Gozen(Chicken Rice Set Meals). We take pride in our original Hanazen flavors, emphasizing both “chicken” and “Akita.
“Our offerings extend to Akita specialties such as “Kiritanpo” (grilled rice sticks) and products crafted from locally made “Magewappa” (traditional wooden lunch box) using Akita cedar. Our commitment remains dedicated to delivering the authentic taste of Hanazen, shaped by “chicken” and the essence of “Akita.”

Protecting Beloved, Unchanching Flavors

Shortly after the end of World War II, due to shortages, Odate City distributed “rice, sugar, soy sauce, and burdock root” to locals. These ingredients were combined and cooked, giving birth to “Torimeshi” (chicken rice). At Hanazen, we exclusively use 100% carefully selected Akitakomachi rice, locally sourced from Akita Prefecture. Moreover, the seasoning of our Torimeshi has remained nearly unchanged since its initial introduction. We value “protecting the beloved, unchanging flavor of Akita” dearly, so that regardless of how many years pass the taste remains timeless and nostalgic.
